Dean Abell joined the Wachesaw Plantation Club most recently from the Pinnacle Country Club in NW Arkansas where he served as the Director of Food and Beverage for the past 4 years and 8 months. Prior to Arkansas, he held roles as Club Manager at the Amelia Island Plantation, Amelia Island, FL, Executive Assistant Manager - Director of Food and Beverage for the Stowe Mountain Lodge Resort in Vermont and General Manager of the Club at Porto Cima, at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Prior to the Club Business, he had spent 9 years between the Ritz Carlton Dubai, Ritz Carlton Jamaica and Ritz Carlton Sarasota, FL, serving in multiple management roles. Dean is joined by his wife Kelly and daughters Piper (12) and Reilly (9).

Married to my wife Meredith, and we live in a house at The Farm at Timberlake located just off 707 in Myrtle Beach. I moved here from Michigan in 2015 to work for WPC – I lived there for 42 years before relocating to South Carolina. I have worked in the private club business for most of my career. In Michigan, I worked at two clubs for close to 17 years – The Country Club of Lansing and Detroit Golf Club. Received a BBA degree in Accountancy from Western Michigan University, and a MBA in Business Management from Northwood University. I enjoy playing and watching most sports (especially playing golf and watching football), catching up on the latest and greatest Netflix show, traveling with my wife, and spending time with my family and friends.

Shelia Weaver

Administrative Assistant

WPC’s Administrative Assistant, Shelia Weaver, has been working at the Club for five years. After growing up in TN, Shelia moved to Maryland in 1996. She began her career working in the banking business and transitioned into accounting. She has over 25 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and collections. In addition, Shelia managed over $30 million of commercial and private property for a private company for 16 years. She moved to Myrtle Beach in 2014 after her husband’s retirement from Hallmark Cards, where they were looking for a warmer climate to enjoy. During her five years with Wachesaw Plantation Club, she has been responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. She assists the CFO in any of the day-to-day management of the clubs accounting needs and works with members on questions or concerns with their billing.

Tina Smith spent her grade school years growing up here in South Carolina, then California. Having family throughout the Carolinas, she decided to relocate to Murrells Inlet from Newport Beach, California, five years ago. With over 20 years experience in the financial and lending industry, Tina spent the past 10 years in hospitality, event services, marketing, advertising, and sales. Some of her clientele experience comes from her contracts with NASA, the U.S. Military, the Food and Beverage industry and Fortune 500 banks. Tina is excited to be part of the team as well as our incredible Wachesaw Plantation Club. She has a passion for the members and a great drive to grow our membership while building on those relationships. Tina likes to consider herself as a personal point person for any member looking for any aspect of customer service with regard to utilizing their membership services.

Kimberly Fields

Cottage Rental Manager

Kimberly Fields is originally from Frederick, Maryland, growing up 50 miles from our Nation’s Capital, she moved to Myrtle Beach in December 2016 to be closer to her parents. Kimberly worked as an Administrative Operations Assistant in Olney, Maryland, where she was part of the Nursing and Educational Department. She received many awards throughout her career for exceptional customer service and organization. In 2015, Kimberly founded the Senior Facilities’ Administrative Manager position for ICON, plc., a clinical research company, based in Dublin, Ireland, where she managed over 65 home-based staff at domestic and international locations. Kimberly is looking forward to a long-term career as the Guest Services Manager with WPC where she oversees the cottage reservations and manages the housekeeping staff for the cottage rental program. Hard work and desire to excel have gotten Kimberly where she is today, and it is her warmth and passion that make her such a valuable resource.

Brayer provides a special touch to everything involved with Special Events, and Club happenings. Her ability to understand and satisfy her customers’ individual and collective preferences, combined with her years of experience in the catering and hospitality industry, make her an invaluable asset. She is positive, charming and totally focused on customer satisfaction and ensuring every situation exceeds your expectations. Brayer is a master at creating Private and Club Events that fully capture and deliver all your wants and desires . . . from Weddings to Corporate Parties . . . with no detail being missed. Brayer is a graduate of Erskine College and has over 15 years in the food and beverage industry, including having owned and operated two area restaurants.

Ryan Belanger

Chef Ryan Belanger has spent 17 years in the restaurant/hospitality industry. His passion for cooking and delighting people with the food he prepares led him to obtain a degree in Culinary Arts. He has shown his talents previously at four star restaurants and has operated his own catering business. He has participated in and won many regional culinary competitions including Taste of the Town and Coastal Uncorked. He has a flair for “from scratch” entrees and desserts. Ryan is a Massachusetts native who relocated to this area 20 years ago. His wife Tara is a grand strand native and they have three sons.

Jennifer Ferrara

Front of House Manager

Jennifer was hired on as a server at Wachesaw Plantation Club in March 2011. While in that role, she engaged in every aspect of the Club from serving to bartending and banquet operations in multiple outlets. Through her hard work and willingness to succeed every day, Jennifer was promoted to Lead Server in 2014. She was responsible for the onboarding and training of new members of the team which lead her to a second promotion to Service Manager in 2016. With her continuous dedication and commitment to hard work, she has was promoted to her current position of Front of House Manager in January of 2018. Jennifer’s passion has always been helping people succeed with a love for hospitality and customer service. When she is not at work, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family.

Mark Hankins

Mark was born and raised in rural Ohio where farming and food were always important in his daily live. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps spending much time in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean while being stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for 18 months. In this time, he developed a love for the people, the music and food. Mark had received his formal culinary training in Cleveland under the guidance of some great Culinarians. After spending more than 7 years in Cleveland, Mark decided to relocate to Myrtle Beach. In the years since moving to the Low Country, Mark has held various positions at Bone Fish Grill, Hook and Barrel, Woodland Creek Grill and Pawley’s Island Raw bar. Mark has a daughter, Mary, who is a freshman at St. James High School. When not at work, Mark and Mary enjoy crabbing and hockey.

Shawn was Born in Brooklyn New York to a large family of five brothers and five sisters. As a youngster he moved around a lot with his family including living in South America for 3 years. As a result of he’s travels, Shawn got to experience many different people, cultures and cuisines where he developed a passion for cooking. Shawn has over 20 years of restaurant experience while spending most of he’s time cooking locally from Bovines to Bliss. Shawn has lived in South Carolina for the last 13 years and has spent 7 of those years here at Wachesaw. Shawn is married to Hannah and together they share the joys of being parents to their one-year old daughter, Maliyah.

Joe Gagliano, PGA

Joe is a PGA Professional with 23 years of experience in upscale private clubs. Joe and his quality staff are focused on providing top notch customer service and an unforgettable golf experience. Their relentless commitment to excellence keeps the golf operation running at the highest level. Prior to joining Wachesaw Plantation Club, Joe was at two clubs ranked in Golf Digest’s Top 100 courses: Head Golf Professional at Grandfather Golf and Country Club, Linville NC and First Assistant Golf Professional at The Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst. Joe graduated from Methodist University receiving a BS Degree with dual majors in Business Administration and Marketing, and a concentration in Professional Golf Management. He earned extra certifications in Instruction and Retail through the PGA’s Certified Professional Program. Joe is also certified as a Titleist Performance Instructor.

Angel is a PGA Apprentice and 2014 Graduate of the Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, SC. He earned his Bachelors in Business Administration with University of Phoenix, Hawaii Campus, while serving in the US Navy. Throughout his naval career, he was always an avid golfer which brought to the Grand Strand area. Angel brings an extraordinary professionalism and dedication to providing exceptional customer service in all of his responsibilities. His attitude and enthusiasm are welcomed traits that integrate perfectly into the social fabric of our Club. Angel and his wife reside in the Surfside Beach area and enjoy the outdoors, the beach and of course, golf!

Scott Fretz

Golf Course Superintendent

Scott and his Golf Course Maintenance Team are committed to maintaining the golf course to highest standards to ensure a world class golf experience for all Wachesaw Plantation Club Members and Guests. Scott has 22 years of experience working in the field of Golf Course Maintenance. He came to Wachesaw Plantation Club in 2003 from Kiawah Island Club’s famed Cassique Golf Course where he served as First Assistant Golf Superintendent. He previously worked for the PGA Tour at TPC Jasna Polana in Princeton, NJ. Scott is a graduate of Rutgers University, Cook College and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree, majoring in Plant Science / Turfgrass Management.

Joe Oyco

Director of Tennis

Jose "Joe" Oyco has been coaching and teaching tennis in the states of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina for 30 years. He was a graduate and former assistant men's tennis coach for West Virginia University under Terry Deremer. For eight years he was the Director of Tennis at the Swarthmore Tennis Camp for Adults and Juniors outside of Philadelphia and for twenty years he was the Head Pro at the Litchfield Racquet Club in Pawleys Island, SC. Joe was a former ranked junior player in the Middle Atlantic and is also a member of PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) and USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) and is also a Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS). He has coached state, sectional and nationally ranked players since 1989 and is very involved with all the student's instruction and progress. He definitely enjoys being on the court and spreading his knowledge of the game of tennis.
