If spirited competition is more your style, you are in luck. Like everything at Wachesaw, the tennis facilities also set  an exacting standard. Eight Har-Tru courts include five that are lighted for evening play. The teaching staff is without par as former European pro circuit players. There are a host of opportunities for serious competition as well as lighthearted rivalries. Programs for all ages and skill levels include men’s and ladies round robins and special curriculums for juniors.

 Wachesaw’s Harrison Richmond Wins Prestigious International Tennis Championship


 Wachesaw Plantation Club’s own Harrison Richmond won the Junior Orange Bowl  47th International Tennis Championship the held in Coral Gables, FL.  The Junior Orange Bowl, held in December, is home to the world's largest international youth sports and arts festival and its’ many events include this premier tennis championship where the top junior tennis players in the world come to compete.  Tennis greats such as Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors, Monica Seles, Chris Evert, and Steffi Graff have competed in the Junior Orange Bowl. 

Richmond, competing in Boys 14 & under, was seeded 9th going into the tournament and had no trouble mowing down seven international opponents from the countries of England, Croatia, Israel, Canada and the USA.  In the finals, Richmond needed less than one hour to become one of only three Americans to win the Junior Orange Bowl title in the last 20 years beating his opponent, Edward Nguyen of Canada, 6-4; 6-1.

Ranked #1 in South Carolina Boys 14 & under and #2 in the nation, his accomplishments include South Carolina Junior Boy Player of the Year and National Open Doubles Champion.  Richmond is a member of the USTA National Team as well as Waccamaw High School’s A-2A State Championship Team.  Five of the seven players on the state championship team are members of Wachesaw Plantation Club.

Wachesaw Plantation, a private residential country club community, offers a variety of outstanding amenities, including the tennis facility, with a wide-ranging variety of social and recreational activities for all members of the family.  The professional tennis staff, headed by Jimmy Mendieta, is in the spotlight with Richmond’s win at the Jr. Orange Bowl and is rapidly becoming known for offering a world-class junior tennis program.  

A few accomplishments of other members of Wachesaw’s “Team Elite” Junior Tennis Team include:

Wes Moran-Ranked # 2 in SC and #3 in the Southern Section.
  He is a High School All American and is the High School State Singles Champion.  He was named “Toast of the Coast” Player of the Year.

Billy Kenny-Ranked #3 in SC and #9 in the Southern Section.  A member of his high school state championship team he was also High School State Singles Runner-Up.  He is a member of the “Toast of the Coast” Team.

Mike Moran-Ranked #25 in SC.
  He was the HSI Junior Winter Championship Doubles Champion Boys 16 and the Wachovia Palmetto State Closed Doubles Champion Boys 16IMG_3509.jpg
He is a member of his High School State Championship team and a member of the “Toast of the Coast” Team.

Josh Richmond-Ranked #10 in SC.
He is the Palmetto Tennis Center Jr. Champion Boys 16 and the HSI Junior Winter Championships Champion Boys 18.  He is also a member of
Waccamaw High School’s State Championship Team and a Member of the “Toast of the Coast” Team.

Laura Dean-Ranked #3 in SC and #21 in the Southern Section.
  She is the
SMASH State Open Clay Court Junior Cup Singles Champion Girls 12 and the
Topspin Annual Jr. Classic Singles Champion Girls 12.

Kyle Barr-Ranked #12 in SC.
  In 2008 he was named champion of the
Wachovia Greater Florence Tennis CHP Champion Boys 12 and the City of Myrtle Beach Fall CHALLENGER Champion Boys 14.
